How many lessons will I need?
Where can I find help to get started?

It's worth using the following link which provides a step-by-step guide to getting started.

Should I learn in a manual or an automatic car?

This is a personal choice. The main advantage of learning in a manual is flexibility. Once you pass, you will be licensed to drive both manual and automatic cars. However, it could be considered slightly easier and faster to learn in an automatic (not always the case). SDS Driving Academy only offers lessons in a manual car at this time.

What do I need to bring to lessons?

Before your first lesson, I will need to see your provisional driving licence (or full licence if you already have one). I would always recommend having your licence with you when driving. But you don't need to bring anything else with you.

If I pass before using all my block booked lessons, will I get a refund?
Are your fees negotiable?

Unfortunately not, although I appreciate there is no harm in asking, the answer will always be no. 😊

I am a very nervous learner, should I start to learn to drive?

If you want to learn, then being nervous or anxious should not stop you. Try a few lessons, and see what happens. I will always work at a speed and pace that suits you and you will build confidence rapidly. Give it a go 😊

Should I be practicing between lessons?
Can I take the test in my own car?

Yes it is possible to take the test in your own car and this will save you money. Please check that your car is suitable for the test using the following link;

Yes, if it is possible to practice with a friend or family member legally then it will help you and will probably save you money. Please check that you are insured in your own car. The supervisor with the learner must be at least 21 years old, qualified to drive the type of vehicle being supervised, and have held a full driving licence for at least three years.

Can I use your car for the test?
How much do the driving tests cost and how do I book them?

Yes you can use my car for the test BUT only if I agree that you are 'test-ready' and safe to do so. In some cases, learners may feel confident they are ready to go to the test before I feel they are. In this situation, you will need to take the test in your own vehicle. It is essential that learners are safe to take the test for all road-users. Discussions about this will take place in plenty of time.

The fee to use my car for the test is £80 (equivalent to 2 hours). Which will include some practice before the test.

Every student is different so there is no definitive answer to this. However research shows that, on average, it takes people 45 hours of driving lessons with a driving instructor plus 22 hours of private practice to pass their test. But those who manage 100 hours of driving lessons plus practice are much safer on the road after their test.

Research also shows that people who combine their driving lessons with private practice are 50% more likely to pass the driving test. https://readytopass.campaign.gov.uk/driving-skills/track-progress-learning/

Yes of course, any unused hours will be refunded at the same rate they were purchased for.

I am desperate to drive, can you teach me quick?

My priority is to produce safe and confident drivers. You will learn faster with more lessons and plenty of practice. However, the pace of learning will never be more important than safe driver education.
